Welcome to the Bloomfield Libraries Summer Reading Program! The theme for 2018 is “Libraries Rock!” and is open to all ages. This year’s program begins June 25.
You can visit Prosser Public Library and P. Faith McMahon Wintonbury Library in person and/or online during the summer to register and record your summer reading books. Keep up your reading when you’re at home and when you’re on vacation!
All summer reading events and prizes are generously funded by the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Libraries. Adult raffle prizes are sponsored by the Friends and local businesses.
Registration & Prizes
You do not need a library card number to register for summer reading. You will choose a username and password that you will use every time you log into the online summer reading module to enter your reading minutes or titles. Prizes are awarded all summer long. Please select an age group below for program details.
Attend programs, see performers, read books, and win prizes! Children keep track of the time spent both reading and being read to by someone else. All reading counts; reading can be done anywhere, in any format. For 100, 300, 700 & 1,300 minutes read, children earn a special prize. There is also a special challenge to read 2018 minutes! Can you do it? You can also participate in the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge by recording book titles.
Children can start entering their reading minutes on June 25 (the last day to log reading minutes is August 26). The more minutes you read, the more prizes you may win! Don’t forget to visit the library throughout the summer—every time you check out materials you’ll earn a raffle ticket for some fabulous prizes we’ll be giving away. Check out the children’s event calendar for different activities every week in the children’s room, such as activity sheets, crafts, and games.
Are you entering grades 7 – 12? If so, join us for an exciting summer reading program! Check out what we have going on this summer. And…just for signing up, you’ll get a prize! (Prize not available until June 25.)
You can start entering your book titles on June 25 (the last day to log titles is August 26). Just keep track of your titles, and get entered into an online drawing for every 2 books you read! Reading can be done anywhere, in any format. Read your own books, or borrow books from the library! For every 2 titles you read, your name will be entered to a weekly online drawing. The more you read, the better your chances!
Summertime is reading time! You can mix and mingle with like-minded adults during our library events, find great new books to read, and share your reads by writing a review. If you need help selecting a great book, please ask a librarian!
Adults can start logging book titles online on June 25 (the last day to log titles is September 6), and have the chance to win raffle prizes every week! Read ANY book you want, as many as you want. For each book title submitted, your name is entered in the weekly drawings. One prize per reader for the summer, with the exception of the grand prize drawing, for which all readers will be entered.

Benefits of Summer Reading
Research shows that children who read for pleasure during the summer do better when they get back to school in the fall, while kids who don’t can slide backward in all subject areas. The summer months offer great opportunities for children to improve their reading and writing skills.
Did you know that Summer Reading is a program that entices children to read when school is not in session and encourages them to become lifelong library users? Make reading a key part of spending time together!
- Here are some simple things adults can do to help:
- Model good literacy behavior – let your child see you reading for pleasure.
- Read and write with your child – make grocery lists together and exchange letters or emails with family and friends during vacations.
- Listen to audio books during car trips.
- Tell stories and sing songs together.
